Jurgen Klopp reveals why he made the decision to step down as Liverpool manager

jManager Jurgen Klopp took the footballing world by storm this morning when he announced that this season would be his last as Liverpool manager.

Ever since his arrival in 2015, he’s taken the Anfield club from a fallen giant to the summit of European and world football.

He has transformed the club and everyone connected to it, and perhaps most importantly, he breathed life into Liverpool at a dark time in the club’s history.

The German defined a period at Liverpool, and all who went on the journey with will surely remember it for the rest of their lives.

Under his leadership, the club have won almost every trophy imaginable including the English Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup and more.

The news has devastated Reds fans around the world as Klopp is widely regarded as one of the best managers in world football.

Now in a press conference called following his announcement, the Reds boss has shed some light on the rationale behind the decision.

What did Jurgen Klopp say?

The German was somewhat emotional and revealed when he knew it was time to end a storied Anfield career as manager of Liverpool Football Club:

“With all the responsibility you have in this job, you have to be at the top of your own game.”

“I absolutely invested everything I had, and it was no problem.”

“I prefer to pack absolutely everything in this season, and then have a break.”

“You realise yourself, you’re not a young rabbit anymore and don’t jump as high as you did.”

“It was not that I thought about it on purpose, it just happened, then I started thinking about it and this club, with all the super things we have, this club needs a top manager.”

“This club, especially with the team we have, the super things we have. The club needs a manager on top of his game, if I cannot be there 100% I have to tell the club.”

“I still think it is the right thing to do. I do not take these things lightly.” 

“The relief was there when I made the decision for myself. Today, it is mixed. I am not as emotionally as I will be when it comes to an end finally.”
