Disappointing news for Liverpool fans as Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Luis Diaz has suffered a setback in his return to fitness.
Diaz sustained a knee injury away to Arsenal at the end of October and has not featured for the Reds since. It was reported a few weeks ago that Diaz was making good progress in his recovery, but it seems the Colombian has reaggravated the injury in Liverpool’s training camp in Dubai and was forced to leave training with discomfort in his knee, as reported by The Times.
Jurgen Klopp has shed light on the situation in today’s post-match press conference, which took place after Liverpool were defeated 3-1 by Lyon in a friendly.
Klopp on Diaz: “It is a big disappointment for all of us, honestly. It was a non-situation. Heard something, didn’t feel a lot the next day but we wanted to be really cautious. We had a look the next day. Then the news came. It was a proper smash in the face”.
Colombian sports journalist Pipe Sierra now reports that Diaz will require surgery to repair ligaments in his knee and could be out of action until March.
Diaz has been hugely influential for Liverpool since his arrival last January and this unfortunate update on his injury status will be a real blow to Klopp’s men, who were hoping to have the Colombian back in the team by Christmas.
