Jurgen Klopp eyeing up Ajax duo, but two important decisions need to be made first

Red’s boss needs to assess what positions are crucial to upgrade

Liverpool have reportedly shown interest in signing the popular pair Edson Alvarez and Jurrien Timber from the Dutch capital.

Their pursuit, however, may come to a halt after crucial decisions have been hashed out.

The Red’s summer shortlist is seemingly growing by the hour, but Sky Germany reports that both players are on that list.

Both Alvarez and Timber have been linked to moves to England’s top-flight previously with Chelsea and Manchester United sniffing around the respective players.

A £44m bid from the West Londoners was rejected back at the beginning of this term and so the interest is more than likely still there.

Timber made the informed decision to remain in the Netherlands, too, with links that he would re-united with his former boss Erik ten Hag.

Now, Liverpool have declared themselves in the race, and the hype around the duo is more than justified.

The combined price of the two youngsters is reported, by Transfermarkt, to be around £71m, and so the questions need to be asked of whether these areas are a priority in Klopp’s summer refurbishment.

There’s no doubt that Jude Bellingham remains the midfield priority, but Stefan Bajcetic’s recent uprising into the team may tempt Klopp and his team to avoid another big-money pursuit for a midfielder.

If Joel Matip remains at Liverpool, there may not be the need for an extra defender to be involved in Klopp’s 2023/24 plans, but the Cameroonian’s future is currently uncertain.

Big decisions are yet to be made by the German boss, but the pair will definitely be monitored as they see out the rest of the season with Ajax.
