Julian Ward ended his 11-year stay as Liverpool sporting director this summer.

The 42-year-old was a key part of Klopp’s revolution at Anfield and will be remembered fondly for helping to assemble a squad that would go on to win the biggest club prizes in football.

Ward’s contract expired on June 1, but he remained a bit longer to ensure the club could complete the signing of Alexis Mac Allister.

Neil Jones, writing on his SubStack, reports that Julian Ward was delighted when Liverpool secured the signing of Alexis Mac Allister and believes the World Cup champion from Argentina appears to be one of the best deals of the season at £35 million.

The ex-sporting director was also responsible for taking immediate action to help Liverpool outmaneuver Tottenham to sign Luiz Diaz back in January 2022.

Ward even canceled his family Christmas celebrations to help accelerate signing Cody Gakpo in the January transfer window.

It is fitting that Mac Allister is Julian Ward’s last major signing for the club, as he helped mastermind many outstanding transfers during his time with the Reds.
