Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher gave his analysis of Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Newcastle on Sky Sports after the game.
Although Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool supporters were surely happy with the victory and the two goals from Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo, Carragher believes that Alisson was Liverpool’s best player during the game, which the pundit says should cause alarm bells to ring for Jurgen Klopp.
The Brazilian had lots of work to do in goal, making 4 saves and was voted Man of the Match. Alisson made vital saves from a Miguel Almiron effort at 0-0 and also made an important stop from Callum Wilson in the second half.
“Alisson has been Liverpool’s best player. Klopp will be looking at this and there are still things that will worry him,” said Carragher on commentary.
Liverpool’s lack of defensive solidity has been their major issue this season and Alisson has been busier this season than he has ever been for the Reds.
All elite goalkeepers are expected to make big saves but Alisson will be hoping his defenders can sharpen up. With a solid performance from the returning Virgil van Dijk, the Dutchman will hopefully bring some calmness and confidence to Liverpool’s sometimes frantic defence.
Alisson is a major candidate for Liverpool’s player of the season this season .
