News of Jurgen Klopp leaving Liverpool Football Club has been heard around the world.

The question on most people’s lips is, who will be the next manager of LFC?

A number of high profile names are going to be in the mix, but nobody knows for sure.

Will it be a former Liverpool player or someone completely disconnected from the club?

One of the names being linked is former Liverpool midfield star Xabi Alonso.

Alonso joined Liverpool from Real Sociedad in 2004, spending 5 seasons in Merseyside before leaving to join Real Madrid.

The Spaniard is currently in charge of German side Bayer Leverkusen who are sitting at the top of the Bundesliga tree and are hoping to stop Bayern Munich from winning the title again.

Alonso has been earning plaudits for the work he’s done at Leverkusen as his team is undefeated in 18 games and lead Bayern by 4 points.

Journalist Ben Jacobs has tweeted the Alonso is the bookmakers’ early favourite to take over as Liverpool manager at the end of the season.

Along with the tweet, he’s shared a video of him interview Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro.

Carro told Jacobs that there is no break clause in the contract allowing Alonso to leave for Liverpool, but added “sometimes agreements that aren’t on paper are agreements as well.”

A rather cryptic message from Carro that almost reads like there’s a gentleman’s agreement for Alonso to be allowed to leave rather than a written one.

Either way, it’s going to get LFC fans excited as Alonso and his team’s style of play does seem an ideal fit for him to be the next manager at Anfield.
