‘There has been an initial discussion’

A previous link to Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram has now re-emerged following the ongoing news updates surrounding Jude Bellingham’s future.

Speaking to LFC Transfer Room podcast, journalist Jacque Talbot revealed the latest on Liverpool’s pursuit of the player.

“I spoke to someone recently who covers Nice and says he is the best-performing central midfielder in Ligue 1 right now.

“So, the sound was like a month ago that it would be £30m, but it’s possible it’s inflamed if there is much more interest in that.

“There had been some initial discussion and Liverpool had touched base with him. That’s not to say that is going to be 100%, he’s a top target, and they are going to go for him. It’s just to say that a conversation took place, very preliminary and there is a bit of interest there, and he will be going.”

A reinvestment in their midfield is a priority for the Anfield camp this summer with reports of a couple of outgoings on the cards.

Several midfielders are running down their contract and with many of those not fit enough to don the Liverpool shirt, this summer is the perfect opportunity for a huge change of personnel.

Thuram has racked up over 28 Ligue 1 appearances, scoring twice and providing four assists in that time.

Similarly to Liverpool target Bellingham, the 21-year-old has been described as ‘fast and athletic’ by Jacek Kulig and has been hailed for his contribution at both ends of the pitch.

Just recently, Thuram was rewarded with a spot in the France national team ahead of the Euro 2024 qualifiers and so it’s safe to say he’s following in his family’s footsteps.

His outstanding form for French club Nice has not gone under the radar, as Klopp has been impressed in the meantime.

A young prospect with room to grow may just be what the doctor ordered for Liverpool.
