Ibrahima Konate is set to start for World Champions France alongside Dayot Upamecano according to L’Equipe.

The Liverpool centre back has already missed 14 games through injury for his club so far this season. However when in the Liverpool XI the Reds have looked defensively solid and compact at the back despite Konate playing only four times this term.

After missing Liverpool’s final Premier League tie against Southampton due to a minor knock Konate has recovered in time to show his ability in what will be just his third French cap. Konate has made just two Premier League appearances this season.

The £36M signing from Leipzig looks to be yet another shrewd purchase in one of Michael Edwards’ final signings before his departure. For Liverpool to be able to say they signed a starting centre back for the world champions at such a relatively low fee it is no mean feat.

Despite Christopher Nkunku and Karim Benzema missing out on the tournament through injury the reigning champions are favourites to regain their crown. With firepower like Kylian Mbappe, Oliver Giroud and the prowess of Aurélien Tchouaméni in midfield not many teams will fancy their chances against Les Bleus.
