Liverpool shocked the sporting world on Friday when they released a short video of Jurgen Klopp announcing that he would be leaving the club at the end of this current season.

Due to how well Liverpool have been doing so far this campaign some fans were optimistic about the legendary German coach possibly signing an extension past 2026 but unfortunately for supporters that was not the case as they now only have four months left to enjoy Klopp at the helm.

He told the owners back in November that he would be leaving the club at the end of this campaign and he let the public know now so that the media would not report on it first.

Before the video was released by Liverpool and then the full interview he told the players who all responded very well according to Klopp with pictures in training on the same day showing them smiling.

On Sunday they then proved that they did react well to the news as Liverpool ran riot against Norwich City in the FA Cup fourth round with a big 5-2 win over David Wagner’s side.

Some players gave their thoughts to the media after that game and now Ibrahima Konate has given an interview about the big news.

Ibrahima Konate reveals how much Jurgen Klopp means to him

In an interview with the club the French defender spoke about a few things with the biggest topic being Klopp leaving.

He said: “Of course it was very emotional, because nobody expected this from the manager. The world did not expect this!

“Everybody was surprised, but this is football, and football is crazy. I don’t have the words, I don’t know how to explain this feeling, but for sure it was very important for us to show to the manager that we are with him for the rest of this season.

“We want to win everything for him, and for us, and for the fans.”

When asked if this would give him and his teammates more incentive he said: “Yes, exactly. When he said that [he was leaving], in my mind I was like, ‘In the last four months, I have to give my life for him now.’

“It’s a big thing for the club and the fans, but like the manager said, for the next game against Chelsea we cannot think about this, and if the fans can help us to make sure that Chelsea know that they are away at Anfield, this will be great for us.”

Konate has been one of Liverpool’s most important players so far this season especially due to the big injury to Joel Matip which ruled him out for the rest of the campaign.

The French international has been in great form alongside Virgil Van Dijk and those two are set to be key if Liverpool are going to give Klopp a big send off by winning some more major honours.
