Liverpool will news to improve considerably if they are to retain their FA Cup crown. After an inconsistent performance against Wolves Jurgen Klopp will know his side must offer a lot more in the replay to progress. New signing Cody Gakpo made his debut.
The Dutch international believes there is room for improvement.
Gakpo had a few impressive moments during the game, including a shot on target and he had involvement in Mohammed Salah’s second goal to put Liverpool ahead.
Gakpo has already developed and understanding with Andy Robertson on the left hand side and both players combined on occasions to get in behind Wolves’ defence.
It looked like Liverpool were heading for the 4th round after Salah’s well taken goal but Wolves had other ideas.
Hwang, the Wolves substitute, equalized late in the game, taking the game to a replay scheduled on the 16th of January at Molineux.
After the game, Cody Gakpo was interviewed concerning how he influenced the game on his debut and he said;
“Really great atmosphere. For my own game, I think I showed some good moments and some sloppy moments. So, I can also still improve on those points and keep working and try to help the team as much as I can. Of course, you learn the most when you’re playing games, so I’m looking forward [to more]”.
His manager Jurgen Klopp was pleased with his performance and how well he adapted to Liverpool’s style of play.
“I liked how he grew into the game – he was massively involved in our second goal, he’s a good footballer, he can keep the ball. Now he needs minutes. Everybody could see what a good player he is – it will be much better once we get used to him and he gets used to us”.
