Former Liverpool man Nuri Sahin has emerged as a candidate to replace Arne Slot at Feyenoord.

This according to Dutch outlet Algemeen Dagblad, who report that the 35-year-old has been examined by the Rotterdam club.

Sahin joined Liverpool on loan in 2021 However, by the time he joined Liverpool in 2012, his confidence had been shaken by his unsuccessful stint at Real Madrid.

Sahin made only 12 appearances for Liverpool before leaving the club.

He also played 32 matches for Feyenoord on loan during the 2007/08 season.

He has since retired from professional football in 2021 and quickly became the manager of Antalyaspor in Turkey.

At Antalyaspor, he managed for two seasons before taking on his current role as assistant manager to Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Terzic.

Earlier this year, Sahin reflected on how his time at top club Borussia Dortmund, even in a less prominent role, was highly instructive for his burgeoning coaching career.

As a player, he was mentored by notable managers such as Jürgen Klopp, Thomas Tuchel, José Mourinho and Peter Bosz.

Additionally, Sahin earned 52 caps for Turkey and participated in the 2016 European Championships in France.

In their search for Arne Slot’s successor, Feyenoord has closely examined underlying data, considering Sahin despite his coaching experience being primarily in Turkey.

Feyenoord’s general and technical director, Dennis te Kloese, mentioned that a foreign coach could also be a viable option for the club.

Nuri Sahin to Feyenoord confirms Arne Slot’s switch

As if we needed anymore confirmation, Feyenoord’s interest in Sahin means that Arne Slot is surely half-way to Liverpool by now.

Slot has been an open book regarding his switch to Liverpool and has often confessed that the agreement between both clubs would happen imminently.

The 45-year-old will take charge of his last Feyenoord game against Excelsior on Sunday.

It will no doubt be an emotional moment for the Dutch manager when he says goodbye at De Kuip this weekend.

Meanwhile, his Arne Slot’s early tenure at Liverpool has received a boost, as assistant manager Sipke Hulshoff is set to join him at Anfield next season.

Initially, there were concerns that Hulshoff, Slot’s trusted assistant, would not be able to make the move due to his commitments assisting Ronald Koeman at the upcoming European Championships this summer.

However, he has resigned from his role under Koeman and will join Slot on Merseyside.
