News broke this morning that Liverpool are unlikely to sign English starlet Jude Bellingham this summer, and ex-Liverpool defender Jose Enrique is far from happy.
The Reds have endured a poor 22/23 season and a player of Bellingham’s quality and young age would have been a perfect acquisition for their ageing midfield.
David Ornstein, of The Athletic, released a report this morning that Manchester City and Real Madrid are ahead in the race for the 19-year-old’s signature, leaving Liverpool in the dark.
Missing out on the Champions League qualification spots means Klopp’s transfer budget would take quite the hit, meaning that chasing such a sought-after target may not be worth their time.
Similarly to most Liverpool supporters, the Spaniard aired his frustration towards Liverpool and their owners on Twitter.
“They don’t want to invest – even if [it] is [for] one of the best numbers 8 in the world, at just 19 [years old],” Enrique exclaimed.
“Does this surprise me? Not at all.”
He later added: “From the start I knew he wasn’t coming.
“FSG spending 150m euros on a player without selling? Not a chance.”
Klopp and his team will be disheartened by the news, as their long-term pursuit of Bellingham may be dying a sudden death.
FSG’s reluctance to fork out for one of the best talents in world football may prove detrimental again as it’s their unwillingness to spend that may stop this switch from happening.
Many supporters will be backing Enrique’s public outburst towards Liverpool’s owners and their financial strategy in the market, and I have a feeling that Enrique’s outburst against FSG is not done.
