Cody Gakpo exploded onto the scene this season, scoring goals for fun at PSV Eindhoven.
After an impressive World Cup with the Netherlands, he caught the eye of many of Europes top clubs.
But it was Liverpool who managed to sign him, after paying PSV £44m in the January transfer window.
A former coach at youth level, Bastiaan Riemersma has been impressed with Gakpo since he was 6.
He spoke to Elf Voetbal, saying “He was really looking forward to training sessions. From the first day, he was the person he still is today: driven and not afraid. He stood out as a person, and also as a footballer. You could immediately see that he was better than the others”.
“We often played four against four. That was it: head down and like a bulldozer through his opponents. From day one, he was dominant at PSV.”
Despite starting off slowly, Gakpo has found his feet, scoring goals against Everton and Newcastle in recent weeks.
