Former Arsenal defender Kieran Gibbs has stated his confusion when anyone asks for Liverpool to cut ties with German boss Jurgen Klopp

Granted things have not gone Liverpool’s way this campaign and their topsy-turvy series of events almost typifies their current status.

But to say that Klopp no longer has the pedigree as manager of this club is outlandish.

Gibbs told The 2 Robbies podcast that he is baffled at some of the shouts regarding Klopp’s future.

“I always find it funny when people ask for Klopp’s head. it baffles me a little bit,” Gibbs told the podcast.

“But that’s kind of the world we live in now so it’s come to be expected. But they’ve competed heavily for every competition for the last five years. Three Champions League finals I think it is, a Prem, title challenge every year for that, there’s been a World Cup in the mix, a lot of players went to that.

“Klopp’s style of play is so intense that it’s not surprising that they’re having a down year.”

Interestingly, he made a point about Klopp’s demand for intensity and the effect that this would have on the squad.

That’s why there is such importance on rich squad depth, as players are prone to fatigue when your team is competing at the highest level on multiple fronts.

This summer will be key for Liverpool’s foreseeable future, but what is most key is to have Klopp continuing at the helm.

The German has delivered time and time again and taken this club to heights that some thought were unachievable.

Liverpool’s hopes for top four are still in reach if they are able to overcome their next three deafening domestic outings against Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal.

Although not ideal, securing Champions League football for the following season would be a real win for the Merseysiders.
