The 22-year-old Manchester City star withdrew from his duty with Norway earlier this week due to a groin injury and has put doubt in minds of whether he would be fit to face Liverpool.

His dad has now insisted that Haaland is “touch and go” for the contest.

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds take on Manchester City on April 1 so Haaland still has time to recover, of which he has been doing with a club physio in Marbella.

Alfie Haaland, the father of Erling, spoke to Norway’s TV 2 Sport, as quoted by The Times, and gave an update.

“Manchester City has a partnership with a hospital in Barcelona, so he has been there for further checks and treatment,”

“Now he has been here [Marbella] for a couple of days with the physio from the club. Firstly, I’m not a doctor and secondly, I think it’s ‘touch and go’, yes. You can’t just go two weeks without training and then jump right into a fight. There must be progression there.

“They can gamble on it, but if he doesn’t get proper training with the team, then he won’t play. It is about how he responds to treatment in the next few days. He needs a lot of care.”

Haaland’s dad has hinted that the injury could be worse than first thought and that his involvement against Liverpool may be dependent.

This injury will come as a massive blow to Manchester City who are trying eagerly to contest Arsenal for the domestic title but will play nicely into the hands of Liverpool.

The Reds begin their difficult run of fixtures against City and then face both Chelsea and Arsenal consecutively after, with both London clubs fighting for their respective aims.

Scoring 42 goals in 37 matches in all competitions this season, Klopp and his entourage would be delighted to see the Norwegian talisman sat on the reserves bench.
