Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Mohamed Salah would be returning to Liverpool due to the injury he got on international duty with Egypt.
He stated that he may go back for the final and now the Egyptian FA have released a statement on the situation.
They said: “The Egyptian FA announces that Mohamed Salah will travel to England to receive treatment following the match between Egypt and Cape Verde, with the hope that he will join the Egyptian national team if it qualifies for the semi-finals.”
Salah was taken off for Egypt against Ghana just before half-time which was a concern for his country and for Liverpool who are were hoping that he would return after the tournament in a good condition.
However, he has now already returned which Jurgen Klopp confirmed after Liverpool’s impressive 4-0 victory over Bournemouth which extended their lead at the top of the Premier League.
When asked about how Salah will recover from injury, Klopp said: “That’s the plan. I think everybody sees it makes sense to (rehab) with us.”
There was one difference between what Klopp said and what the Egyptian FA said as when the German coach was asked if Salah would return to the Africa Cup of Nations he said: “If he is fit before the final then probably yes.”
It will depend on how fast Salah recovers from the back injury that he suffered against Ghana when he will back but it does appear that the legendary winger will be out for slightly longer than what was first anticipated.
How has Mohamed Salah played at AFCON so far?
Egypt had Mozambique in their opening game of the tournament and they scored in the opening minutes of the match thanks to a Salah assist, even though it was a miss-hit shot from the Premier League’s leading goalscorer.
