Egypt had their second group game of the Africa Cup of Nations against Ghana with the tournament now in full flow after Ivory Coast started proceedings on 13th January.
The game between both sides in Group was an even one in the first half with only one shot on target each from Egypt and Ghana.
Then Egypt had a massive blow to their hopes as a Mo Salah injury just before half-time would have knocked any optimism they had as he was forced to leave the pitch.
He looked uncomfortable and walked over to central defender Ahmed Hegazi to give him the captain’s armband before leaving the pitch for Mostafa Fathi.
Salah didn’t look too pleased by his facial expression however he also did not seem to be in significant pain even though he did walk off the pitch slowly but he did not appear to be limping.
Just a minute after he left the pitch Ghana went down the left wing to attack but Egypt won in back and then quickly lost possession.
West Ham star Mohammed Kudus picked the ball up on the edge of the box before firing past Mohamed El Shenaway in goal to give Ghana the lead and give Egypt a double whammy before half-time.
Salah’s teammates managed to get an equaliser as Omar Marmoush scored in the second-half but three minutes after that Kudus scored again.
However Egypt clawed themselves back into the game as the second-half continued to end-to-end and Mostafa Mohamed got another equaliser.
The game ended up finishing all square though which means Egypt and Ghana will have it all to do in their last group games to ensure they get through.
Egypt manager Rui Vitoria gives update on Mo Salah injury
After the game the Egyptian manager Rui Vitoria was asked about the injury to Salah and he gave supporters of the nation an update.
He said: “We don’t know yet what the problem is. I hope it’s not a big problem. It was difficult timing for us because in the second half we could only make two substitutions. I think it’s not dangerous but let’s see.”
Vitoria seemed relaxed when speaking about Salah’s issue which could mean that he believes it is not too big of a problem and he will be hoping he is available for their last group game in four days time.
Egypt were big favourites in their opening game of the Africa Cup of Nations as they faced Mozambique and they looked like they might runaway with the victory as they scored in the opening minutes after a Salah assist.
However Mozambique fought their way into the game and as it appeared that they would snatch the win Salah stepped up to dispatch a penalty off the post to get them a point.
Egypt were one of the favourites to win the tournament alongside the likes of Nigeria, Senegal and Morocco but their recent performances may not convince supporters but they showed great spirit against Ghana.
