Eddie Howe was interviewed at full time and the Newcastle manager was asked about Nick Pope’s red card.
Bizarrely the Howe said he thought the decision was ‘harsh’.
“It felt like a harsh decision. The player was at an angle with defenders retreating to our goal.”
Pope will now miss the League Cup Final with Loris Karius likely to start.
Martin Dubravka is cup-tied after he played in the competition already with Manchester United.
Jurgen Klopp backed Loris Karius ahead of the final.
“You can rely on him, no doubt about that. He’s a great goalie.”
🗣️ “I really feel for Nick [Pope]. I don’t know the rules on the red card but it felt like a harsh decision.”
