Dominik Szoboszlai has not featured for the Reds since the New Year’s Day victory over Newcastle United.

He was forced off with a hamstring injury as Liverpool battled to a 4-2 win over the Magpies.

It was unlucky timing for both the Hungarian and Jurgen Klopp, as Liverpool are already missing the likes of Salah, Endo, and now Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Dominik Szoboszlai has enjoyed a good debut season for Liverpool so far, and he will want to get back on the pitch as soon as possible.

The 23-year-old recently won the Hungarian Male Sports Person of the Year award for his achievements in 2023.

The Hungarian skipper enjoyed a great year that saw him lead his nation to an unbeaten qualification run to the upcoming Euro 2024.

Additionally, he earned a 60-million-pound move to Anfield while helping the Reds finish 2023 at the top of the Premier League table.

What did Dominik Szoboszlai say about his injury?

While Liverpool’s No.8 was interviewed on his achievements for 2023, Nemzeti Sport (via Ben Bocsak) also asked the Liverpool man about his injury:

“Yes, I am still running without a ball, but soon I can carefully try training with a ball, I’m getting better,” Szoboszlai said.

When asked if he would return to play against Bournemouth on 21 January, the 23-year-old did not rule it out:

“Yes, it’s possible, but we don’t want to rush anything.”

“I’d rather miss one more match, if that’s what it takes, so that I don’t injure the previous strain and can play continuously.”

Hopefully Szoboszlai can return sooner rather than later considering all the injuries and absences the Reds have.

However, we would rather the Hungary international fully recovers before rushing himself back and risking aggravation.

With key men such as Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold unavailable for extended periods, Szoboszlai creativity is very much needed.
