Dutchman Cody Gakpo is seemingly finding his feet at Anfield after taking some time to settle after his move to Merseyside last winter. The forward has scored important goals against Manchester United and Newcastle and was arguably Liverpool’s best player in the Champions League defeat to Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu.
However, Gakpo still has some adapting to do at his new club. The Dutch international has jokingly revealed that he cannot fully understand the Scouse accent, making it difficult to understand certain teammates.
Gakpo, speaking on Liverpool’s Off The Pitch with Jamie Webster, addressed the accent, saying he finds it, “difficult. When you speak fast, I cannot understand.”
“Often, to Curtis [Jones], [repeating himself] maybe three times because I cannot understand what he’s saying.”
“Where I’m from, the rest of Holland thinks we have a bad accent, so…”
No doubt Gakpo will adapt and overcome this little hurdle as he seems to have done with adapting to English football.
