Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount has turned down a contract extension at Chelsea worth £250K a week.
Well that is according to The Athletic. They claim Mount was offered a sum similar to what their top earner, Reece James earns.
As reported by The Athletic, it’s not just down to wages, but also image rights, bonuses and the length of the contract why Mount turned them down.
These long term contracts Chelsea seem to favour is the biggest stumbling block.
In the January window, Fernandez and Mudryk both signed 8+ year deals which are unheard of in football.
Liverpool’s wage structure is rigid with the top earner, Mo Salah earning £350K a week.
The second biggest earner is Van Dijk who reportedly earns £220K a week.
A move for Mount will mean he would become one of Liverpool’s highest earners.
Mount’s contract talks have stalled and will resume in the summer.
But by then, he will only have 1 year left on his deal, with Liverpool and Newcastle interested in the England international.
