Chelsea are set to re-enter talks with Benfica for the signing of Enzo Fernandez. Both the Guardian and Record in Portugal report the news.
Talks came to an abrupt end a number of weeks ago after Roger Schmidt labelled Chelsea ‘disrespectful‘.
Now reports suggest that talks are set to begin again. Chelsea’s spending will exceed over £300M in the January transfer window alone if they sign Fernandez.
That figure may get even higher as the article states that Chelsea had a £55M bid rejected for Moisés Caicedo last week. Chelsea may return with a bigger offer according to the report.
Liverpool were linked with both Moisés Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez. Liverpool reportedly walked away from any potential deal for Fernandez due to his reported €120M buy-out clause.
The Guardian report that Benfica are reluctant to sell Fernandez for less than his release clause.
