Gary Neville made over 700 appearances for Manchester United at a time where the Red Devils were the pre-eminent force in English football.
However, times have changed, with Manchester City and Liverpool frequently competing with each other for the Premier League.
The Reds Devils have lost their way in the last few years, having been nowhere near a title race for many seasons now.
Speaking on The Daily Ketchup Podcast, the pundit has heaped praise on Jurgen Klopp – especially when considering the budget the German has had to work with in comparison to Pep Guardiola.
When asked to pick his best manager in the world right now, Neville said:
“I’d say Jurgen Klopp.”
“Jurgen Klopp works with a budget which is far less than Pep Guardiola.”
“Pep Guardiola’s a genius, and he’ll be the one who’s remembered forever more.”
“But Jurgen Klopp, for me, is an amazing manager.”
“If you said to me which manager, could I bring to Manchester United tomorrow, it would be Jurgen Klopp.”
The German initially arrived at Liverpool in 2015. There were high hopes for Jurgen Klopp, but there also a huge job to be done.
The Reds were a far cry from the juggernaut they appear to be now.
The 56-year-old rebuilt Liverpool, just like he rebuilt Borussia Dortmund by winning successive Bundesliga titles.
Gary Neville raises a fair point – that Manchester United is a rebuilding job, a job that Jurgen Klopp has proved he can do.
