Argentinian superstar Alexis Mac Allister is now tipped to join Liverpool after claims he is pushing to leave his current club, Brighton, this summer.
The 24-year-old has been a key part of Roberto De Zerbi’s high-flying Brighton outfit and even impressed in Argentina’s World Cup victory in Qatar.
Speaking to TEAMtalk in an interview, journalist Graeme Bailey revealed the latest.
“Alexis Mac Allister wants to leave Brighton this summer. But he has a lot of hurdles to overcome before he can get out of the AMEX,” said Bailey.
“Mac Allister signed a new long-term deal just before Argentina’s World Cup campaign, which saw him excel. And it is no real shock to learn that the interest in him is strong with many clubs around Europe keen.
“However, Brighton as it stands are in no mood to sell – given that he only signed his new deal earlier in the season.”
Despite his new contract and a heightened transfer fee, an exit this summer is still plausible.
FootballTransfers have reported that Jurgen Klopp’s side have shown interest in the Argentine, with his father even being amongst the crowd in Liverpool’s 5-2 to Real Madrid.
The report also claims that his valuation is around the £70m mark, which makes the transfer negotiations all that more difficult.
Knowing FSG’s transfer strategy, it is unlikely that the former Premier League and Champions League winners will splash out for Mac Allister, given their full-blown pursuit of Bellingham.
The Argentina international does serve as a cheaper alternative, though, and would bring heaps of Premier League experience with him.
Liverpool are in dire need of midfield reinforcements this summer and Mac Allister would be an exciting acquisition.
