Arne Slot will not be the biggest fan of PSV after they dethroned his Feyenoord side as Eredivisie champions over the weekend.

PSV won the Dutch league last night with a 4-2 win over Sparta Rotterdam, with Feyenoord runners up this time around after winning the Eredivisie in 2022/23 – the club’s first league title in six years.

PSV had an extremely strong showing under manager Peter Bosz this campaign, having won 28 games out of their 32, drawn thrice, and only suffered one loss the entire campaign so far.

Therefore, we can cut Arne Slot some slack for not going back-to-back with Feyenoord, as PSV simply put in a freakish performance across the length of a season.

There is now not too much for Feyenoord to play for after already winning the Dutch domestic cup in April.

Therefore, official announcement of Arne Slot’s switch could happen imminently – although the 45-year-old confessed that both Feyenoord and Liverpool are both still busy with their own seasons.

Slot also revealed that he would look to pick the brains of Jurgen Klopp ahead of succeeding the German at Anfield.

But it seems that the Feyenoord manager has also been given some advice from their Eredivisie rivals.

What did PSV chairmen Marcel Brands say about Arne Slot?

Marcel Brands, who has experience in Premier League football as a director at Everton, revealed that the pressure is huge at club like Liverpool – and that he must avoid only signing Dutch players he knows:

“Slot will be working at one of the biggest clubs in England,” began Brands via BeIn Sports.

“You have to realise that. Liverpool have supporters from all over the world, and the pressure is always there.

“Just like Manchester United, they really are the biggest clubs in England, but it is a fantastic challenge.”

“Don’t focus blindly on signing five Dutch players.”

“He has to look very carefully at what he needs with his style of football, and only settle for top players.”

Then, speaking after his sides win 5-0 home win over PEC Zwolle on Sunday, Arne Slot was quizzed on Brands advice (via Voetbal Zone):

“That’s good advice from people who have worked in the Premier League and have made their mark in football.”

“But I don’t think you should always judge based on moments from the past.”

“I also read everywhere about the success rate of Dutch coaches in England… There are so many variables.”

“If a player is good, it shouldn’t matter what level he comes from. But at the moment there’s no talk of anything, because nothing has been officially confirmed yet.”

There has been concerns that Arne Slot will favour Dutch players/ex-players much like Erik Ten Hag did by bringing in the likes of Lisandro Martinez and Antony from Ajax.

However, we should view Slot as a blank page, even if he does also hail from the Netherlands and has the same hairstyle as Ten Hag.
