Liverpool-linked Arne Slot held his pre-NEC Nijmegen press conference this afternoon ahead of what looks like his penultimate game as the Feyenoord manager.

Arne Slot has been honest about his move, and despite no official announcement yet, all signs lead to Liverpool settling on the Dutchman to shape the post-Klopp era.

Reports suggest that Liverpool’s leadership has agreed to pay Feyenoord a compensation package of €9 million.

There is also believed to be an additional €2 million in add-ons to secure Slot’s services.

The Dutch manager was seen taking in the Feyenoord faithful in an apparent farewell at De Kuip following his sides’ 5-0 win over PEC Zwolle in the Eredivisie last Sunday.

He has no doubt built a connection with the fans in his three-season tenure – a period that has seen the club been reestablished as a powerhouse in the Netherlands.

In his first season at Feyenoord, Slot led the team to the 2021/22 UEFA Conference League final.

They were narrowly defeated by Jose Mourinho’s Roma.

Building on this success, in the following season, Slot guided Feyenoord to their first Eredivisie championship in 2022/23.

It ended a six-year wait for the historic Dutch giant.

Slot has shown a knack for winning trophies as well.

This is highlighted by his team’s recent triumph in the KNVB Cup, where they secured a 1-0 victory over NEC Nijmegen this season.

An open book, the Dutch manager seemed to all but confirm the Liverpool switch in fresh quotes today.

What did Arne Slot say about Liverpool?

When quizzed on when an official announcement could come, Slot replied via 1908.NL:

“I say almost every time: it will be a matter of days. I expect the same now.”

Things like this take a bit more than going to the shop with a shopping list and ticking off the groceries.”

“These are things that have to be timed properly and everything has to be worked out.”

“There are sometimes some things attached to that as well.”

“So that combination of factors means it hasn’t been communicated yet.

“But don’t worry, that will undoubtedly happen.”

In what could be his last away game as the Feyenoord manager, Arne Slot explained that he is focusing on the present – but adds that it could feel different in their final game at home vs Excelsior:

“I’m not really someone who looks very far ahead, who would already think: ‘In a week and a half, it could just be that I don’t drive this way anymore.”

“But the moment you are in De Kuip last Sunday and the match goes as it goes, then you have that moment of realization.”

“That feeling might increase a little bit next week, because it could just be the last week.”
