Liverpool failed to climb the treacherous mountain after falling behind a three-goal margin in the first leg at Anfield.
Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has revealed what he believes the downfall was for his Liverpool counterpart in this damning two-legged loss.
Los Blancos were the better side throughout the tie and will now be considered one of the favourites in the prestigious competition as they look to retain their champion status.
Alisson had to be alert from minute one as Madrid were on the front foot, and he was equal to their chances for the best part, making a total of six saves on the night.
Post-match, Ancelotti revealed how his side dismantled Liverpool.
“I think we played and managed it well,” Ancelotti told reporters.
“We didn’t defend with a low block, and we tried to handle the ball well. We had opportunities and we were solid at the back. It’s the match we wanted.”
Ancelotti then reporters what may have cost Liverpool’s slim chance of survival in Spain.
“Pressing up has cost them. Modric and Kroos handle this type of match very well. They get the ball out very well from behind.
“I liked the team. On a psychological level, it is cheating. We had a three-goal lead and we haven’t slowed down on the accelerator.”
With three goals to chase to level the scoring, Liverpool understood that risk-tasking would be a massive factor to get back in the game.
Real Madrid, on the contrary, dealt superbly with Liverpool’s rush to their goal, in the hopes that they could fire home to excite the travelling support.
