One of the stand-out performers of the World Cup has been Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat. The midfielder has shined for his native Morocco throughout the tournament and as a result has been linked with a number of top clubs across Europe.

Liverpool have been linked to a host of midfielders throughout the duration of the tournament with the links to Amrabat reported last week.

Speaking to the Empire of the Kop, Foot Mercato’s Anas Bakhkhar lent further credibility to the rumours, stating, “Yes, there were very good and positive meetings between the parties and it can only be good if they are talking and the sporting director of Liverpool is involved too, for Amrabat and for Liverpool”.

In an interview with Marca, Amrabat addresses the rumours surrounding his future, but remains vague about his potential destination. Amrabat says, “It’s a great honour to be associated with those types of clubs. Right now I’m playing for Fiorentina. I have a lot of respect for my club, it’s a great team. I have a great coach and a great relationship with owner Rocco Commisso, who brought me to Fiorentina, and also with Joe Barone (General Manager of the club) and Daniele Prade (Sporting Director). I have a lot of respect for them and for the club”.

Atletico Madrid and Barcelona are also rumored to be interested in Amrabat, who is almost guaranteed to leave Fiorentina in January or the summer. It remains to be seen if Liverpool will be the lucky club to secure his signature.
