Liverpool’s goalkeeper Alisson Becker has outlined a problem that Liverpool have had to deal with in their dismal showing this campaign.

The Brazilian has claimed that their injury woes have been a huge reason counting towards their fall from grace, and extended injury periods for players has hurt them.

Following their Champions League exit on Wednesday, he spoke to TNT Sports via 90min and claimed that their injury list should not be an excuse for their season.

“We had injuries [during the season], I think we don’t like to talk about it in football,” the 30-year-old said.

“We’re not going to use it as an excuse, but the injuries certainly hurt us. Now we only have one player left out, so that’s no longer an excuse. It’s been like this for over a month now,”

“We had a fantastic, incredible game against United. Soon after, an inexplicable game against Bournemouth. And against Real Madrid, it’s not that we played badly, but we didn’t play enough to tie the game. There was a lack of attitude, a lot was lacking on our part.”

The elite goalkeeper was one of Liverpool’s brightest stars in his side’s return level in Spain as they failed to overturn a three-goal deficit to progress.

On a couple of occasions, he was equal to Madrid’s efforts to keep Liverpool in sight of a potential comeback, but Alisson’s heroics came crashing down with 20 minutes to go.

Liverpool have been struck with injury problems again, as it seems that year after year, too many players are unavailable for the Anfield-based outfit to sustain a good run of form.

The latest victim to Liverpool’s injury curse is high-flying teenage sensation, Stefan Bajcetic, who is now out for the rest of the campaign.

He joins the long list of those waiting on a return, or those who have missed out previously through an injury problem.

Klopp will look ahead to the summer to replace those injury-prone liabilities with players durable of lasting a season without being side-lined.

No team is able to cope with having a lack of players so often, but Alisson is clear in saying that his side are not using it as an excuse.
