Liverpool will look to bounce back from their defeat to Brentford when they host Wolves at Anfield in the FA Cup tomorrow night. The current holders will be without several key players for the game so it may be difficult for Jurgen Klopp to balance resting first-team players for the cup clash.
Wolves are coming off a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa. It would do wonders for Julen Lopetegui’s reputation at his new club if he could guide his team far into a domestic cup competition.
Liverpool’s injury list includes Virgil Van Dijk, James Milner, Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz. The good news is that it seems captain Jordan Henderson may feature after missing the Brentford game because of a concussion.
In exciting news for Liverpool fans, new signing Cody Gakpo is expected to make his debut for the Reds. Supporters will be eager to see if the left-winger can have an immediate impact and help his team recover some form. In his pre-match press conference today, Jurgen Klopp described Gakpo as “a joy to watch”.
Liverpool won the FA Cup last season after beating Chelsea on penalties. Wolves last won the FA Cup all the way back in 1960. Wolves are currently in 19th place in the Premier League and are in serious danger of relegation if their form does not improve. It is difficult to guess if Lopetegui will prioritize the league or if he will play a competitive side to make a serious attempt to progress in the domestic cup.
