Jurgen Klopp will hope that his team keep up their winning form when they travel to the Gtech Community Stadium to face Brentford on Monday evening. The Reds scraped a win against Leicester City at Anfield on Friday and will hope to look more dominant against Thomas Frank’s side, who will be confident after a 2-0 victory at West Ham in the last round of fixtures.
Ibrahima Konate may be brought back into the Liverpool side after an unconvincing performance from Joel Matip against Leicester. Roberto Firmino, James Milner and Curtis Jones will likely not make the squad, although all three are reported to be returning to training soon. New signing Cody Gakpo is not expected to feature. In a press conference last week, Jurgen Klopp alluded to introducing Gakpo in the upcoming FA cup fixture v Wolves.
Brentford’s Ivan Toney was stretchered off against West Ham but Thomas Frank has alleviated the fears of Brentford fans this morning. Frank said in a press conference today, “There’s nothing wrong with his knee. Without going too much into the details, it’s something with the muscle. He could potentially be available for tomorrow.” If Toney does not start the game, it is a safe bet that he will feature from the bench.
Brentford come into this fixture in 10th place in the league, with Liverpool in 6th. Klopp’s men are hot on the heels of the European places in their bid to recover from their inconsistent start to the season. Liverpool won the reverse fixture 3-0 earlier in the season.
