It was a day Liverpool supporters will never forget as The Reds hammered Manchester United 7-0 yesterday evening at Anfield in what was United’s worst loss since 1931.
Liverpool’s front three were electric and seemed to completely click for the first time as Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo each bagged two goals.
A seventh from substitute Roberto Firmino at the end of the game was the icing on top of the cake.
Jurgen Klopp was full of praise for his attackers after the game when speaking to Liverpool’s official club media.
“It was one of the best performances for a long, long time. In a way I think everybody saw how good the boys can be.
“I think nobody was in doubt about Darwin’s future impact when he settles because he is a real force of nature, Cody plays in the most difficult area of the pitch against a man-marking side which is super-tricky, but how he keeps himself on his feet there and has the overview of everybody else, Mo is Mo, midfielders around.”
Mohamed Salah scored his 128th and 129th goal for Liverpool in the game, becoming the club’s all time leading Premier League scorer.
Klopp praised the Egyptian for his remarkable achievement.
“We didn’t speak yet [about it] but Mo Salah achieved tonight something really, really special – we should not forget that just because we are used to him scoring a lot of goals. Very special, very special player, very special boy and should be really proud of that.”
