The Reds have started the season strongly in a competitive Premier League landscape.
Jurgen Klopp’s men trail Manchester City buy one point, with Arsenal also in the picture but behind the Reds on goal difference.
Many wondered if Liverpool would be in a position to challenge for the league title after tumultuous 2022/23 season.
There had been of plenty of change over the summer, with long-standing squad members such as Jordan Henderson and James Milner unexpectedly leaving.
Additionally, the Anfield club was criticized for its transfer window – with some believing that the right players were not brought in for the job.
Nonetheless, Jurgen Klopp and his men have showed no fear this season – and look like the most likely to end Manchester City’s grip on the Premier League title (again).
Indeed, Liverpool have conceded the least number of goals (10) in the Premier League this season [premierleague.com].
Its then ironic that there has been such an outcry for defensive reinforcements when Liverpool have statically the tightest defence in the league this term.
Of course, many of the plaudits need to go to Alisson Becker, who has established himself as the best ‘keeper in the world this season.
However, Virgil van Dijk has been a big part of the reason why Liverpool are so defensively sound.
The Dutchman has been thriving since being given the captaincy, and hopefully his form extends into the rest of the campaign.
Sir Alex Ferguson once claimed “attack wins you games, defence wins you titles“… hopefully it rings true for Liverpool this year.
