Liverpool are set to take on Fulham in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final.

The Reds have had a stellar season thus far and they have not shown any signs of slowing down.

When the sides previously met in the Premier League, Liverpool left victorious.

However, the Cottagers didn’t make it easy for the Reds. They did eventually win 4-3 but it was by the skin of their teeth.

In the 86th minute, Liverpool were 3-2 down and within the last moments of the game managed to pull a result from out of nowhere.

Liverpool are obviously the favourites for the clash but Marco Silva will ensure his side don’t go down without a fight.

Wednesday’s semi-final will be the first time that Fulham have reached this stage of the cup.

Their previous best came in 2005 where they managed to reach the quarter-final.

Liverpool will also be looking to extend their unbeaten run of form across all competitions at Anfield to 24 games.

Liverpool team news

Since the start of the season, Jurgen Klopp hasn’t had the full Liverpool squad available to him.

That is because the likes of Thiago Alcantara and Stefan Bajcetics’ injuries carried across from the 2022/23 season to the 23/24 campaign.

This is no different for their upcoming clash as the Reds still have a long list of injuries amongst their squad.

A surprise absentee from the upcoming game is Trent-Alexander Arnold.

You can read more into his injury here.

Long-term absentees Kostas Tsimikas, Andy Robertson will all be unavailable for the game.

Thiago has, however, been pictured in training but he won’t be back until February.

The duo of Robertson and Tsimikas are also recovering well with Pep Ljinders saying today that they will “Both [will be back] next month. But no complications, so that’s good.”

Dominik Szoboszlai missed out on the Arsenal clash at the weekend and is set to miss out against the cottagers tomorrow.

With Liverpool not having a senior natural left-back, the recently recalled Owen Beck may be relied upon to fill the gap.

However, Joe Gomez had a sensational game against the Gunners which could well warrant him a starting spot.

Liverpool will also be without Mohamed Salah and Wataru Endo due to their countries participation in the Asia Cup and AFCON.

Fulham team news

The Cottagers have also been hindered by AFCON in the build up to their game against Liverpool.

Nigeria duo, Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey will both miss out due to their international commitments.

Fode Ballo-Toure will also be representing his country although, he has never been a regular fixture in Silva’s side.

Both Adama Traore and Tim Ream missed Fulham’s game against Rotherham.

Ream is the most likely of the pair to return to the matchday squad.

Aside from those mentioned, Silva should have a fairly strong squad to choose from in order to try cause an upset.

Potential starting line-ups for each side;

After Wednesday’s game has ended, the Premier League sides are set to have a miniature winter break.

This could mean that although both played at the weekend, each could start their strongest 11 available.

Which means that Liverpool’s team could look something like this.

Whereas, Fulham could line-up with a team which could look like this;

Leno; Tete, Adarabioyo, Diop, Robinson; Cairney, Palhinha; Wilson, Pereira, Decordova-Reid; Jimenez

Liverpool will be hoping to extend their unbeaten Anfield run and book their place in the Carabao Cup final.

If Klopp’s men win, this could be the first of many finals we see Liverpool in this season.
