Liverpool are set to face Fulham in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final.
In their last meeting, the Reds managed to triumph over the Cottagers in what ended up as a 2-1 win.
The clash was seemingly more difficult that Liverpool first anticipated as it took Cody Gakpo entering the pitch in order to gain the advantage.
This will be the third time this season that Jurgen Klopp’s men will be facing Fulham.
The first meeting of the sides came in the Premier League where the Reds dramatically won the Cottagers 4-3 despite being 3-2 down in the 86th minute.
This game not only showed Fulham weren’t going to be a walk in the park and that Klopp’s men would need to be on top of their game.
If Liverpool can manage to win the game or hold the London based club out for a draw, they will advance to the final of the Carabao Cup/
If they do make it to the end, they will be facing Chelsea and will be looking to win their first silverware of the season.
With the form that the Reds currently find themselves in, they will be going into the game as favourites.
If they manage to advance to the final, this could be the first step to an incredible season for Liverpool.
Fulham team news
The Cottagers are set to be without a fair few of their first team players for their upcoming matchup against Liverpool.
Each of Fode Ball Toure (Senegal), Calvin Bassey (Nigeria), and Alex Iwobi (Nigeria) will all be absent from the game due to their national side partaking in AFCON.
Although Fode Ball Toure isn’t one of their starting players, both Bassey and Iwobi have been consistent players for Marco Silva throughout the campaign.
Adama Traore has been out for some time due to a hamstring injury he sustained back in Novemebr and will once again not be available for the Cottagers.
Traore not being available will really work in the Reds’ favour. Although Joe Gomez has been stellar this season, his pace would’ve undeniably been a problem for Liverpool.
When he has previously played against the Reds, he has often been a problem causer and made himself hard to defend against.
As Silva has lost twice to the Reds this season alone, he will undoubtedly be out for Vengeance.
Liverpool team news
For much of the season, Liverpool haven’t had their full squad available to them.
Throughout the campaign, the Reds have had even more players added to their absentee list.
Each of Thiago Alcantara, Stefan Bajcetic and Joel Matip will all understandably be absent from the squad due to their respective long-term injuries.
However, during his pre-match press conference yesterday, Pep Ljinders addressed the return of some of Liverpool’s more short-term injuries.
Dominik Szoboszlai, Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas have all recently suffered injuries which have kept them out for a number of weeks.
Ljinders provided an update on the recovery of each player and whether or not they will feature on Wednesday.
“Dom trained yesterday with us, just a small sided game, but played good, felt good, did some extra work with the sports science team.”
“He is ready but tomorrow comes too early for him, so he will be ready for the weekend if nothing goes wrong.”
Andy Robertson has been absent from the Reds’ squad for around 13 weeks now.
However, tomorrow he is set to return to the squad and will likely make a cameo towards the end of the game.
“He trained yesterday with the team, he had his meeting with the surgeon to make sure that everything is right to go into full contact – it’s clear.
“He did a lot of work & really good rehab throughout the last period, so he’s fit in terms of sports science.
“He will travel [to Fulham].
“Kostas is now four weeks after surgery, so he needs probably two more weeks because we need to make sure that the bone is strong and the bone is healed before he goes into first-team training.”
