It’s no secret that Barcelona have financial problems, and it’s certainly a mystery how they were able to sign Lewandowski, Raphinha, Kounde and Kessie last season.
This week, the Catalonia club has been told that they cannot sign players this summer by La Liga president, Javier Tebas.
He said at the Financial Times’ Business of Football summit in London on Thursday “As of today, Barcelona doesn’t have any room in its budget to spend in the upcoming transfer window”
“Barcelona has been involved in questionable behaviour which has had an impact on La Liga and we are acting accordingly”.
“They sold off €700m in TV rights and tried to find different ways to solve the situation but they won’t be able to do that next season. We have strict economic controls. At the end of each window, we tell all the clubs in La Liga what they can spend.
Moreover, Barcelona have also been told that if they raise £178m from player transfer fees, they will only have £71m to spend.
Therefore, Liverpool can take advanatge of the situation and sign some of their world class players for a knock down price.
Frenkie De Jong is one player who Liverpool are in desperate need of, someone who can pick out passes and dictate the game of play.
Barcelona’s defender Ronald Araujo is another option, who has impressed this season at the back.
He reads the game well and plays out from the back and he would be much cheaper than Josko Gvardiol.
Whether Gavi or Pedri will leave is another question, but there are many players Barcelona have that will strengthen Liverpool’s team.
