BRENTFORD FIRST GOAL (19th minute)

Konate own goal was a freak goal to concede but a corner was preceded by a very dangerous Brentford counter-attack.

Thiago Alcantara controlled the ball on Brentford’s half and had 3-4 options for an attacking pass.

He made a pass to the penalty area where Darwin Nunez was under pressure from two defenders.

Nunez won the ball but then lost balance which allowed the opponent to intercept him, it provided a good chance to create fast counter-attack.

One pass took 8 Liverpool players out of the game.

Only Konate and van Dijk were able to stop the counter attack but it was too late. Two attacking passes from the Brentford penalty area created a big chance for them. The home side had positional advantage in the counter attack, Liverpool midfielders were lost in the central zone and they didn’t have a possibility to prevent counter attacking run.

Mbuemo won the foot race against van Dijk (due to comfortable position in centre of the field) but it was stopped by Alisson. It lead to the corner and Konate’s own goal.

SECOND BRENTFORD GOAL (42th minute)

It was easy for Brentford to launch their attack. Harvey Elliott failed to stop the ball after simple pass from Alisson.

After an interception, Brentford players had a comfortable situation to make cross tothe penalty area from right side of attack. Due to Elliott’s mistake, left back Kostas Tsimikas was out of the play and Mbuembo had time to make next right decision.

Elliott and Tsimikas tried to prevent a cross from Mbuemo, Oxlade-Chamberlain was too far away from the defensive zone and Mbuemo made a back pass to Jensen.

Before Mbuembo pass/Jensen cross Liverpool players in the penalty area had enough time to keep the right position. Alexander-Arnold had to mark Wissa.

But just a second before the cross Alexander-Arnold lost position, took a step closer to Norgaard (he made a run to penalty area) and lost Wissa.

Alexander-Arnold tried to amend his error but it was too late. Wissa scored with a comfortable header. Alexander-Arnold did not read the danger in time.

Fact – Liverpool’s opponents scored 3 headers from close range in last 4 games

LIVERPOOL GOAL (50th minute)

Liverpool controlled the ball in a positional attack and Fabinho made a pass to right side to Alexander-Arnold.

The Liverpool right-back had enough time to make a cross but it seemed that all Liverpool players were marked by Brentford defenders.

Alexander-Arnold made left-footed cross and the Brentford defender was caught out. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain made a smart move to a free zone.

A clinical finish by Oxlade-Chamberlain from the centre-forward position.

THIRD BRENTFORD GOAL (84th minute)

Another positional Liverpool attack, Alexander-Arnold found Keita, who was free, in the centre of the field.

Keita received the ball but failed to keep control of it. Lewis-Potter hassled Keita from behind, Norgaard got the loose ball and made a quick long pass to Mbeumo.

Konate was the first to get to the ball but after physical contact he fell down, Mbeumo beat Alisson from one-on-one.
